I have always been interested in portraiture, though it used to feature much more heavily in my practice, while now I focus more on an abstracted ideal of self-portraiture, looking at the spaces I interact with in life, with relation to the self.

Over the past few months, through the manner of printing and painting, I have been exploring the experience of narrative and nostalgia, with a focus on the mundane. Mundane spaces, mundane objects, things that could go overlooked. I have been seeking to work from past images and memory to produce these works, recounting past moments and settings, rather than finding things in the immediate present.

I have found since living abroad last year that my work has become embedded not only in nostalgia, but also I have found myself exploring how I interact differently in both foreign and familiar places. It will be interesting to see how this practice continues as I have had to change place again, coming back to my family home, my studio less static than usual, working where I can around the house.
