Starting from the idea of emergence – complex behaviour which arises from simple rules and procedures – my work tracks the flow of information through images and between visual and audible media. I create works through iterated reproduction and transformation of image, sound and light. I use the information which constitutes the image as my material, translating it into new forms. The intelligible meaning of the source is broken down into fragments of noise and then built back up, composed into structure. My visual, audio and video works search for a balance between noise, texture and reconisable form. I create causal links between image and sound from one work to another using the digital information which underpins both media, and through their shared physicality.
